Cosmetic surgery can prove to be a life changing decision for you. However, the recovery period is crucial for getting the best result. If you allow time for proper healing---which may span from a couple of days to few weeks--- you will be rewarded by the best possible result in the end. As such you need to be extremely patient during this phase and abide by the instructions given by your surgeon. Here are some additional tips that may help you handle the recovery phase most efficiently which we have gathered on the basis of the personal experience of the patients who underwent different types of cosmetic surgery.
One thing you must accept is: you are going to look worse than before during your recovery days. Expect some bruising ad swelling for two days to few weeks depending on the nature of operation. It is not until a few days have passed that you will come to see the result. Preparing yourself for this will be one of the crucial parts of your recovery period. It is important not to obstruct the natural healing process by raising alarm unnecessarily.
Any surgery big or small-- involves energy loss and in order to compensate this loss, you have to take adequate rest. So that you can spend your post- op days completely by relaxing, first you have to adopt a smart plan prior to operation. To ensure complete rest during the post op days, stock in your refrigerator provisions big enough for two weeks consumption. Also make arrangements beforehand for transportation to take you to the clinic and back on the day of operation and on the days of first few follow up appointments.
A surgery is surgery and you can not expect to resume your normal routine just after undergoing one----no matter how less invasive it may be. So it is better if you can have somebody around for taking care of you for the initial 48 to 72 hours after surgery. It will help you relax and that will expedite the healing process.
Any surgery robs your body off substantial amount of fluid and to compensate that you have to rehydrate your body adequately in the days following operation. The diet should be also light so that they are easy to swallow and digest.
An important precaution involves avoiding sunlight; otherwise your healing may take longer than normal. Use sun block creams even inside for this period.
Most of the plastic surgeries will allow you to return to work between three days to two weeks time. Arrange for leave accordingly. However, planning the surgery date on Friday will give you an added advantage of getting two extra days for recovery.
Last of all, religiously follow your doctor's instructions on the issues like medication, avoidance of certain drugs, cosmetic surgery recovery aids, when to bathe or take shower, when to join office or resume exercise etc. A healthy, speedy recovery is what is essential for a better you---both physically as well as emotionally.
