About Your Hair Loss

Hair loss can be an extremely stressful physiological experience for men and even more so for women.

Baldness or the onset of hair loss is likely to be accompanied varying degrees of anxiety or even depression which in itself can worsen the problem.

Scientific studies have shown that women more than men are likely to suffer psychologically painful side effects due to hair loss, and that the psychological effects are likely to be more severe in women than in men.

The most common form of baldness is a progressive hair thinning, a condition called androgenic alopecia in men or androgenetic alopecia  in women.

Bonnie is a 9 year old Australian Blue Cattle Dog, she suffers from Hip-dysplasia, a skeletal development defect.

Hair loss can range in severity from alopecia areata, which involves the loss of some of the hair from the head to alopecia totalis, which involves the loss of all head hair.

The most extreme form of the disorder is alopecia universalis, which involves the loss of all hair from the head and the body.

Treatments for the various forms alopecia (or hair loss) have some degree of success. Some hair loss sufferers make use of so-called hair loss treatments such as finasteride and topically applied minoxidil (in solution) in

an attempt to prevent further hair loss.

Talk to your doctor if you notice sudden or patchy hair loss or more than usual hair loss when combing or washing your hair. Sudden hair loss can signal an underlying medical condition and may require medical treatment.

No cure is available for permanent hair loss or baldness. However, you can talk to your doctor about medical treatments to slow the rate of hair loss or to hide hair loss.

As a general rule, it is easier to maintain remaining hair than it is to regrow; however, the treatments mentioned will help some of the users suffering from Androgenetic alopecia, and there are new technologies in cosmetic transplant surgery and hair replacement systems that can be completely undetectable.
