young and old alike and in these days of heightened awareness about the
environment, where better than the garden to learn to appreciate nature
and things that grow.

Not only is
the act of gardening physically therapeutic, it is both
relaxing to the mind and the spirit.
A
garden is more than just a planned space set aside for cultivation, and
the enjoyment of plants and other forms of nature. A garden is a
composition of natural and man-made resources brought together in
harmony that is to the betterment of both.
Fountains,
Pools and Waterfalls
Gardens can
also be
works of art and may include enhancements like fountains, or pools,
waterfalls or dry creek beds. It is not uncommon to see statues and
arbores draped with flowers the list of enhancements is limited only by
your imagination.
The most
common type of garden the every day known as a
residential garden and in the western world is almost always
focused
around ornamental plants.
Some
customary types of eastern gardens, like the Zen
garden for instance use plants sparingly if indeed at all.
Xeriscaping
Has become more popular over the last few years refers to a low
maintenance form of gardening that predominantly uses native or local
plants. This reduces the need for excessive watering or the use of
fertilizer or chemicals to promote growth
Japanese
Are Avid Gardeners
The Japanese
are avid
gardeners, this perhaps due to the limited amount of space they have to
enjoy making their gardens (known as kaiyu-shiki roughly translates to
strolling garden) even more precious.
Ornamental
Gardens
Some gardens
are for
ornamental purposes only, while some gardens also produce food crops,
sometimes in separate areas, or sometimes intermixed with the
ornamental plants. Food-producing gardens are distinguished from farms
by their smaller scale, more labor-intensive methods, and their purpose
(enjoyment of a hobby rather than produce for sale).
