BENCH - "ROSES, FLAX and FOLIAGE"
Flower Arranging for Competition Roses Flax Foliage
Space allowed for this arrangement was 75cm and roses were the only flower to be used.

Here is my rosy maypole complete with handmaidens!

Using quick set plaster and a cut down broom handle I made the maypole by setting this in a black glazed pot. The white plastic container is screwed to the top of the maypole.

My handmaidens are three cheap dolls dressed in wired camellia leaves and set into wood offcuts with superglue in toeholds.
Identical arrangements of roses and asparagus fern are in the top container and around the base of the maypole using oasis as the water retaining material.

New Zealand flax is taped at various points of the maypole and some are then joined to the handmaidens. The handmaidens are placed as though they are moving in and out around the maypole (going in opposite directions).

The maypole is then covered with a gold ribbon so that none of the tape is visible.

How whimsical!
