Mans Best Friend

You would have to have been born on Pluto not to know who  "Mans (or Womans) Best Friend" is.

The list of animals that have helped us along our journey to "civilization" is long. There is of course the trusty horse, as well as herd animals to numerous to mention though there is only one that we call Best Friend and it is of course the noble dog, the K9 (canine), the faithful hound, a pup whatever you want to call it, and whatever shape, size or color, I have to admit, I am an avid FAN, I love them all. Big, small, hairy, cute, ugly handsome... all of them.

In fact there are times when I much prefer the company of dogs to people and I don’t think I am alone in that view (just check out our site mascot below).

The Best Qualities In Man
There is no other creature on earth that has a closer relationship to man than the noble Canine. Sure many of the primates exhibit human like behaviour and can be linked to within a few strands of us genetically as a species. The dog however seems to embody all the best qualities of man, without our – less than noble qualities.

Now lets get a little more technical now that I have shown my heart on my sleeve.

Canis Lupus Familiaris
The dog (Canis lupus familiaris – according to Wikipedia) is a domestic subspecies of the wolf, a mammal of the Canidae family of the order Carnivora.

Bonnie is a 9 year old Australian Blue Cattle Dog, she suffers from Hip-dysplasia, a skeletal development defect. The term Canis lupus familiaris (Canine) encompasses both the feral and the pet varieties of the dog. It is also sometimes used to describe wild canids (like the Australian Dingo’s etc.).

The domestic dog has been (and continues to be) one of the most widely-kept working and companion animals in human history.

The dog has developed through the millennia into hundreds of varied breeds. Their size varies from a few inches in the Chihuahua to a few feet in the Irish Wolfhound (their height is measured to the withers).

Dogs Colors
Dogs colors vary from white through grays (usually called blue – like my dog Bonnie) to black, from light tan to dark "red" or "chocolate" in a wide variation of patterns.

The dogs coats also vary greatly from breed to breed, some being extremely short (like in the Chihuahua) to the very long (sometimes many inches long) like seen on the Husky.

The consistency of the dogs coat can also vary from coarse to something akin to wool, and can be either straight, curly or smooth.

Bonnie the Wonder Dog
Bonnie is a 9 year old Australian Blue Cattle Dog, she suffers from Hip-dysplasia, a skeletal development defect.
