Alcoholism
Alcoholism - Causes And Home Remedies By Alcoholism Dependence on alcohol is called Alcoholism. is a chronic and progressive disease characterized by a loss of control over use of alcohol. The problems related to alcohol consumption are common to the society. usually involves physical dependence on alcohol, but genetic, psychological and social factors contribute to the addiction as well. Men who consume 15 or more drinks a week, women who consume 12 or more drinks a week, or anyone who consumes 5 or more drinks per occasion at least once a week are all at risk for developing alcoholism. According to community surveys, over 13% of adults in the United States will experience alcohol abuse or dependence (also referred to as alcoholism) at some point in their lives. Causes of Alcoholism The common cause of drink of alcohol are- • Frustration and angriness. • Schizophrenia. • Genetics. • Inheritance. • Social pressure. • Internal temptation. Alcohol blocks out emotional pain and is often perceived as a loyal friend when human relationships fail. It is also associated with freedom and a loss of inhibition that offsets the tedium of daily routines. When the alcoholic tries to quit drinking, the brain seeks to restore what it perceives to be its equilibrium. The brain's best weapons to achieve this are depression, anxiety, and stress, which are produced by brain chemical imbalances. These negative moods continue to tempt alcoholics to return to drinking long after physical withdrawal symptoms have abated. Alcohol affects the nervous system and can result in nerve damage and severe memory loss. Chronic alcohol use also increases the risk of cancer of the larynx, esophagus, liver, and colon. Alcohol consumption during pregnancy can cause severe
birth defects. Home Remedies for Alcoholism In fact, home therapy without supervision by a trained professional may be life threatening because of complications from alcohol withdrawal syndrome. Usually an alcoholic will experience alcohol withdrawal 6 to 8 hours after cutting down or stopping alcohol consumption. Eating as many Apples as possible at regular intervals reduces the craving for alcohol. They also help to clear the toxins from the system. Lemon has also proved beneficial in reducing pimples and acne. Its juice should be applied regularly to obtain relief. The juice of the leaves of bitter gourd is an antidote for alcohol intoxication. It is also useful for a liver damaged due to alcoholism. 11ree teaspoons of this juice, mixed with a glass of butter milk, should be taken every morning for a month. It is one of the most effective home remedy for curing alcoholism. Grapes have in them the purest form of alcohol making agent and it is an ideal substitute for alcoholics. Therefore intake of grapes can effectively reduce the alcoholism.

The aim of the study is to validate the four-dimensional structure of the Drinking Motive Questionnaire Revised Short Form (DMQ-R SF) in a sample of Italian adolescents and to investigate associations of these motives with frequency of alcohol use and sensation seeking. The data were gathered through self-administered questionnaires in classrooms. The questionnaires were filled out by a representative sample of 2725 (56.4% males; mean age=16.2) 8th to 13th grade alcohol-using students. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation models were applied. Conclusions: This gender-focused analysis found that alcohol-dependent women responded to naltrexone with COMBINE's Medical Management, similar to the alcohol-dependent men, on a wide range of outcome measures. These results suggest that clinicians can feel comfortable prescribing naltrexone for alcohol dependence in both men and women. In this study, it is also notable that fewer women than men reported receiving any alcohol treatment prior to entry into the COMBINE study. Of note, women tend to go to primary health care more frequently than to specialty substance abuse programs for treatment, and so the benefit we confirm for women of the naltrexone and MM combination has practical implications for treating alcohol-dependent women.

There was also a rise in drinking 5 or more drinks in a day (Whites, Blacks, and Hispanics) and drinking to intoxication (Whites and Blacks), but this was limited to those reporting such drinking at least once a month. The reasons for these changes are many and may involve complex sociodemographic changes in the population. It is important for the field to closely monitor these cross-ethnic trends in alcohol consumption.

Given sex-related differences in both social interactions and responses to morphine, the present study examines social influences on morphine sensitization in adolescent female mice. Four experimental groups were examined: (1) morphine-treated mice (twice daily, 10?40mg/kg, s.c.) housed physically and visually separated from saline-treated mice (?morphine only?), (2) morphine-treated mice housed together with saline-treated mice (?morphine cage-mates (of saline)?), (3) saline-treated mice housed together with morphine-treated mice (?saline cage-mates (of morphine)?), and (4) saline-treated mice housed physically and visually separated from morphine-treated mice (?s... Drinking to have fun and to get drunk: Motives as predictors of weekend drinking over and above usual drinking habits Abstract: Most evidence on the motives-alcohol use link has come from cross-sectional research using retrospective assessments. It remains also to be demonstrated whether motives predict drinking in particular circumstances. In the present study, drinking motives assessed 2 weeks prior to a diary study were used to predict the number of drinks on weekend days as reported via short message service (SMS). Multilevel regression models were estimated based on 391 reports from 55 participants (mean age 22.7). The results revealed that enhancement motives but not gender, age, or social, coping, or conformity motives predicted weekend drinking over and above usual consumption. Consumption and motives together explained more than three-quarters of the inter-individual variance in weekend drinking.... Using an item response theory framework, model fit indices demonstrated that although all substance use remained part of a single latent dimension, model parameters differed with age and according to sex. Unintentional overdose and suicide among substance users: A review of overlap and risk factors This study reviews the literature on suicide and overdose among substance users with the goal of illuminating the similarities and differences between these two events. A structured review resulted in 15 articles (describing 14 unique studies) published between 1990 and 2010 that examined both overdose and suicide in samples of substance users. There is some evidence that substance users who attempt suicide are more likely to report an overdose and vice versa. This relationship may be partially explained by the fact that overdose is a common method of suicide. The results of the literature review also indicate that substance users with a history of both events may represent a group with particularly poor psychological and social functioning and severe drug-related problems. This paper examines the impact of providers? failure to treat tobacco use on patients? alcohol and illicit drug use and associated high-risk behaviors. The weight of the evidence in the literature indicates: (1) tobacco use is a leading cause of death in patients with psychiatric illness or addictive disorders; (2) tobacco use is associated with worsened substance abuse treatment outcomes, whereas treatment of tobacco dependence supports long-term sobriety; (3) tobacco use is associated with incr...
